Year 4 Spring 2 Curriculum
Another great half term in Year 4. The children have really enjoyed writing, recording and preparing their volcano documentaries ready for our red carpet premiere event.
Spring 2 Curriculum – Roman Invasion
After the half term break, Year 4 will begin a new history topic focused on the Romans and will learn about their legacy and lasting impact on Britain. The children will be guided through their learning as they read about a Celt prince, named Bran, and his struggle to survive and adapt through the Roman Invasion.
Drama, role play and reading skills will help the children to write newspaper articles, diary entries and stories about their experiences as a Celt prince.
During our science lessons, the children will learn about forces and will take part in a Roman themed catapult competition. We will be inviting parents in to see our learning linked to this topic. More details to follow in March.
Indoor PE: Friday (all classes)
Outdoor Games: Wednesday
Spring 2: Next half term the children will be focusing on balances using the wall bars during our indoor PE sessions and will be problem solving during their outdoor PE lessons.
As the weather gets colder, please make sure your child has warm clothing for their outdoor PE sessions as Team Spirit are keen to work outside whenever possible.
The music concert this week was a huge success. The children enjoyed playing their instruments in front of such a large audience. Thank you for taking the time to watch the children perform. Lessons will continue every week on a Tuesday afternoon. Please make sure that instruments are in school for these lessons as we do not have any spare instruments.
Do you have any spare time during school hours to help with reading or times table practice? The year 4 team would be extremely grateful to any family members willing to give up their time to help the children. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you can help.
Key dates in year 4

1/3/18- World Book Day
Week beginning 26/3/18 – Spelling test
29/3/18- Roman Invasion- parent sharing afternoon
Homework is set on a Wednesday and is due back on a Monday.
SPELLINGS– New curriculum words will be sent home after half term. Please encourage the children to learn these spellings throughout the next half term ready for a test in the final week before Easter.
READING – Children should be reading at home at least four times per week and should be recording their reading reflections in their logs. Reading records will be checked by their class teacher each week.
TIMES TABLES – Children are expected to revise and learn new times tables each week using the Timestable Rock Stars log website. A times table worksheet will be sent home every other week for children to complete.
During the first half term of summer, we will be starting our Design and Technology topic ‘Rags to Riches’. If you have any spare fabric, plastic bags, ties or cardboard please send these in during March.
As part of our Roman topic we would like to offer every child the opportunity to work in our new school kitchen and try out some Roman themed cooking. If you have any spare time during the school day to help a small group of children develop their cooking skills we would be very grateful of your help.
