Year 4 Summer curriculum

We will be welcoming back the children this week for their final half term in year 4! The children have worked extremely hard over the last academic year and we are looking forward to another busy few weeks with lots of exciting learning opportunities for them to enjoy!

Summer 2 Curriculum – SJS: A living habitat!

Our final topic of the year is a science-led topic which allows the children to develop their knowledge about animals, their habitats and ecosystems.

Using this knowledge, children will be surveying, developing and improving our own habitat/ecosystem around the school pond. We will be using our local area to investigate ponds and will visit the Common as part of our research.

Literacy will be focused around the wonders of nature. Short stories inspired by a picture book, and descriptive writing, will engage our readers through our carefully selected word choices.

Indoor PE: Friday (all classes)

Outdoor Games: Wednesday

Summer 2: This half term the children will be focusing on problem solving during our indoor PE sessions and will continue to develop their fitness during their outdoor PE lessons.

As the weather is never guaranteed, please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for their outdoor PE sessions as Team Spirit are keen to work outside whenever possible.

Children do not need plimsolls for indoor PE as they do this in bare feet.

Music    The In2music teachers have started teaching lessons again this week. All classes will continue to take place during a Tuesday afternoon.  Please make sure that instruments are in school for these lessons as we do not have any spare instruments.

The children will be showcasing their music skills in our end of year concert on Tuesday 26th June at 1:30pm.

We hope to see as many of you as possible in the audience!

Parent Helpers

The Year 4 team would like to thank all parent helpers for your support over the past year. We are very grateful for your help with reading, times tables, spelling, sewing, trips and cooking!
